Indigenous Articulations within a European Context
An Experimental Artistic Practice-Based Research
Keywords:
Indigenous, Naxos, Dionysiac, Ecofeminism, Material Literacy, PerformanceAbstract
This work aims to apprehend Indigenous instances within artistic happenings by Letícia Larín, being some in collaboration with Andrea Bareggi, in Naxos, a Greek island, aligned with precepts from material literacy. Embracing a European territoriality and the cradle of Western civilization, reflections on the mythological characters Silvanus and Medea, addressed in the mentioned art pieces, lead to Maenads and Silenus. In this text, considering classical mythology, the Dionysiac universe emerges and establishes connections with ecofeminism. Revealing congruencies between the artist's propositions and other narratives, coordinated performances from past and present demonstrate a critical potential of free expression and sense of community against the dominant system.
